1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you use Free Screenwriter:
- Account information: Email address, display name, hashed password
- Script content: Your screenplays, beats, characters, notes, and project data
- Usage data: Feature usage patterns, session activity, error logs (anonymized)
- Payment data: Transaction records via Stripe (we never store full card numbers)
2. How We Use Information
Your information is used to:
- Deliver and improve the Free Screenwriter service
- Process payments and manage your credit balance
- Send transactional emails (account confirmation, purchase receipts)
- Improve AI model quality using anonymized, aggregated data (opt-out available)
- Diagnose technical issues and maintain service security
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your scripts for advertising or profiling.
3. Data Storage
All data is stored in Cloudflare D1 (SQLite) hosted on Cloudflare's global infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Cloudflare's infrastructure is SOC 2 Type II certified. Script content is stored in the region closest to you for performance.
4. Third Parties
We work with the following third-party services:
- Stripe — Payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment data: stripe.com/privacy
- Anthropic Claude API — Powers AI analysis features. Script content sent to Claude for analysis is not used to train Anthropic's models under our API agreement.
- Cloudflare — Infrastructure, CDN, and edge compute. Privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
5. Data Retention
Your scripts and account data are retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data and script content is permanently deleted within 30 days. Purchase records are retained for 7 years as required by financial regulations.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
- Delete: Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data
- Export: Download your scripts via the FDX export feature at any time
- Opt out: Opt out of anonymized data use for AI improvement
- Correct: Update or correct any personal information in your account settings

7. Cookies
Free Screenwriter uses a single session cookie (sb-session) to keep you logged in. This cookie is HttpOnly (inaccessible to JavaScript), Secure (HTTPS only), and SameSite=Strict (CSRF protection). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
Free Screenwriter is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify registered users of material changes via email at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
